It’s International Women’s Day! This global occasion is all about celebrating women and their achievements. Behind Busy B is an entirely female team, celebrating an inclusive work culture where women’s careers can thrive. It’s the passion, talent and hard work of our carefully handpicked individuals that have helped us grow into the much-loved stationery brand we are today. Today, we sat down with one of our designers, Beth, to learn more about her clever creative mind and the thought process behind our beautiful Busy B designs.
How did you get here?
I studied Print Textile Design at University and then worked at Boden in the childrenswear print and pattern team before Busy B. Being creative is central to who I am, so ensuring that this is apparent through my work means I can enjoy what I do and feel motivated whilst doing it. At Busy B there’s always a new design to be working on, so it is constantly exciting. The finished product is also very beautiful and practical, so it is really rewarding to be able to use something that I’ve had a part in designing.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
The planning stage is a team effort at Busy B, everyone involved brings something different to the table. This part of the process involves a lot of brainstorming, so it is interesting to see where people draw inspiration from. We all get to work together and build ideas from each other, so planning a new collection is always exciting.
What are you most excited about in the new SS23 collection?
I love the pretty range as it always feels feminine and revolves largely around floral prints. It is a hard task to design something new when you’re working a season or two ahead, so we often switch designers to keep the prints fresh. I worked on the ‘Dreamy Daisies’ print, which features soft feminine pinks and beautiful daisy flowers. It’s a nice range for the Spring/Summer season as it feels brighter and has everyone looking forward to warmer weather. My favourite product is the To Do Notes as they keep my many lists in one place.
Finally, what is your favourite part of being a member of the Busy B team?
Everyone plays a different, yet vital, role in the business. The women of Busy B are so talented, and it is an inspiring environment. Our team is made up of women from all walks of life, but everyone’s individual talents and differences are celebrated, which is incredibly important. We wouldn’t have the beautiful products we do without each and every integral team member, they make Busy B the brand it is!
