Behind the scenes with Kerri the Busy B Managing Director
What is your name?
Kerri Binnie Middleton
What is your job title?
What is a day in the life of a Managing Director like?
Varied, busy, lots of meetings and it’s always moving forward which I like. My job is to manage the direction of the business so that involves driving projects, looking at finances, researching and making decisions and having a good understanding of what’s going on in each department to support and guide where it’s needed. We share a lot of info as a team and I do look at a lot of spreadsheets and reports these days but my heart still lies in the design and product development side of Busy B. I studied Product Design at art school and it’s the bit I still love most. It’s definitely a team effort at Busy B so I do spend quite a bit of time with the product team here developing new concepts, discussing market research and reviewing the look and feel of new ranges.
What item is at the top of your to do list today?
Looking at some gorgeous new designs for a top secret new Spring collection and assessing new packaging designs for our BusyB.co.uk orders for Autumn! We've also just recently shot our lifestyle images for our Autumn/Winter range so I'll be reviewing the photos today.
What is your favourite Busy B product and why?
I still love our Family Calendar, even though we designed the concept a long time ago it’s just so useful for my everyday life at home. I have it pinned to the back of the kitchen door surrounded by the kids drawings and artworks and refer to it several times a day. I hear a lot of customers say they couldn’t live without our family calendar and especially the storage pockets and I have to say I agree! The pockets on our family calendar are rather full though, it has become the ‘go to’ place for all the family to find timetables, letters from school, party invites, appointment cards etc, it’s a life saver when you are busy like me!
If you were an item of stationery what would you be?
I think I’d have to be a highlighter pen! I think my job is to spot (or highlight) opportunities for the business and then work with the talented team here at Busy B to help guide the business forward in the right direction. Sometimes it’s a bit like looking at a lot of information on a page (i.e. lots of options or paths that we could go down) so like a highlighter pen I need to draw attention to the right opportunities for us to pursue and focus our resources and investments in.
