BEHIND THE SCENES WITH ROSY FROM BUSY B

Behind the Scenes with Rosy – our Finance Manager!

Welcome to the next blog from the Behind the Scenes series. This time we’re looking in to a day-in-the-life of Rosy!

What is your name?
Rosy

What is your job title?
Finance Manager

What is a day in the life of a Finance Manager like?
I’ve always thought I was very fortunate in that I do enjoy doing the sums, but I love working alongside all the creativity of our Design department as well as being in a fast-moving office environment. My role in Finance is to make sure the money is coming into the business as well as going out in the way we want and expect it to. So a typical day for me will start with a run-through emails and queries to get these sorted first. We buy our stock in US dollars, so I check the currency market daily to keep an eye on the rate of exchange; this way I can plan to buy what we’re going to need for the next few weeks and months at the best rate possible – not an easy task, and I’ve often really wished I had a crystal ball to help!!

I deal with all our suppliers and manage their payments, so this covers everything from paying our shippers and our warehousing costs, to paying for the office milk! So this really is the skin and bones to my day, although I’ve got lots of additions to my role including managing our staff payroll, being responsible for the upkeep of the office environment including our IT, and producing key reports, all of which are threaded into my daily task list.

We do enjoy a decent coffee at Busy B and always make time to put a really good pot on each morning along with warmed milk! This is a task I love doing along with my colleague Steph, and it’s become a bit of a ritual in our morning routine – I’ve often thought if all goes belly up in Finance, I might just have a future in coffee!!

What item is at the top of your to do list today?
Today, top of my list was to make a big payment to one of our Chinese suppliers for our Christmas stock.

What is your favourite Busy B product and why?
I love the Busy Life Diary – mostly because it’s such a nice piece of stationery to use. I like the look and feel of it, but also think the format is great and has loads of different features which make it so much more than just a diary (like the pockets for keeping receipts, the tear-off shopping list and space for notes). It’s a good size too – plenty of space for getting everything written and recorded, but small enough to fit into my handbag easily.

If you were an item of stationery what would you be?
An address book. I quite like the idea of being something which lasts a long time (a bit like me really), which contains the contact details of friends, family and loved ones – I think this feels like something a bit special.
